Initiatives advancing the local community

As part of the various sustainability efforts conducted by THK, one of our Group companies, THK India Private Limited (THK India) is pursuing efforts that are deeply tied to their community. Indian law requires companies to conduct sustainability activities equivalent to 2% of their average net income over the past three years, with such funds being meant to support things like medicine, education, the environment, disaster relief, and the eradication of poverty. In accordance with such laws and regulations, THK India makes meaningful contributions to society. In this article, we take a look at the results of their sustainability efforts and share a message from the local leader of these initiatives.

THK's Relationship with the Indian Market

India has currently surpassed China as the most populous country in the world, and its economy is expected to continue growing at a vigorous pace. THK turned its gaze on India at an early stage, starting out by opening a representative office in Bengaluru in November 1997 before establishing THK India in the same city in November 2012. We later expanded our Indian sales network to include a total of six locations, with sales offices in Pune, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Delhi, and Rajkot.
In addition, as part of THK's strategy of establishing an integrated sales and production structure in areas of demand, we opened the THK India Private Limited Sri City plant in Sri City in November 2021 to serve as THK India's manufacturing facility. Currently, a combined total of about 300 people work in THK India's sales and manufacturing divisions.

THK India’s Sustainability Activities

THK India has implemented a diverse array of sustainability activities. Some specific examples of the support they have provided are given below.

Supporting Education

THK India installed interactive whiteboards at public schools near Sri City. They also donated 30 laptops and 25 lecterns to Vikrama Simhapuri University in Nellore to provide students with a better learning experience.
Furthermore, they provided funds to purchase trucks to deliver lunches to schools in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, through the Akshaya Patra Foundation. This foundation delivers meals to students, and the vehicle THK India donated is used to bring food to schools in the district of Nellore, which is near where the THK India Private Limited Sri City plant is located. Hundreds of children receive highly nutritious meals through this initiative, which is helping to fill the gap in nutrition to allow kids to focus on learning and to build a brighter future.

Medical Support

THK India repaired a nutrition rehabilitation center in a Nellore hospital, thereby improving nutrition care services in the region. In addition, they provided an ambulance with BLS (basic life support) equipment to the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Area Local Authority (IALA). This ambulance, which offers basic first aid to injured people, will provide reliable healthcare services to people in Sri City and surrounding areas. This initiative is helping to bolster India’s medical infrastructure and provide much-needed regional medical support.

Disaster Relief

THK India made a donation to the Andhra Pradesh Disaster Relief Fund in response to the flooding from a cyclone that struck the city of Vijayawada in September 2024, providing funds to support the emergency response for impacted families and reconstruction.

THK's long-standing sustainability initiatives tied to the local community have been recognized by the Sri City Foundation with an award and a letter of thanks.

Employees at THK India feel great pride in being part of an organization that strives to have a positive impact on society. Our staff feel just how significant these activities are by seeing firsthand how sustainability is deeply intertwined with the lives of people in our community, including in such varied areas as education, medicine, and environmental conservation, and how it contributes greatly to building a better society.
The initiatives we've worked on have also increased the desire of many of our employees to give back to the community. Their increased awareness of sustainability is spurring their active participation in efforts that contribute to society, such as volunteering, raising awareness of various causes, and suggesting ideas for future sustainability initiatives. Furthermore, our employees’ earnest grassroots efforts are contributing to the mission of our company and have taken on greater meaning.
At THK India, we will continue to do our best to build a sustainable future and bring positive change to our local community.

Contributing to Local Communities

That concludes our overview of THK India’s activities. As THK expands its operations in the Indian market, in addition to obeying all laws, it is critical that we establish strong collaboration with the local staff at each location and actively plan activities that will contribute to the local community.
