THK's Seismic Isolation Table Model VIT for Display Cases Now Available to Protect Historically Valuable Cultural Assets

THK CO., LTD. (Location: Minato, Tokyo; CEO: Akihiro Teramachi; hereinafter referred to as “THK”) has developed the Seismic Isolation Table Model VIT for cultural asset display cases in facilities that possess historic cultural assets. It will be available beginning in October.

The Seismic Isolation Table Model VIT for cultural asset display cases is a slim seismic isolation device (smallest height: 96 mm), mainly targeting the freestanding rectangular glass display cases that are installed in museums and art galleries. The seismic isolation structure incorporates the functions of supporting (linear guides), restoring (springs), and damping (viscous dampers) into one device. Installing it directly under a glass display case naturally protects the case itself, but it also protects the historically valuable cultural assets inside from major earthquake damage.

Utilizing the technologies of the linear motion guide used in industrial machinery throughout the world, THK has established a reputation based on results in products ranging from seismic isolation for buildings to seismic isolation for floors. With THK seismic isolation that reduces tremors from earthquakes and protects important items, we propose the optimal earthquake countermeasures for a customer’s needs.

Features

Product lineup suited to the specifications of display cases

The lineup consists of four sizes (600 × 600, 750 × 750, 900 × 900, and 1200 × 1200) suited to the standardized shapes of display cases. Accessories for display cases (adjusters, casters, and sliding baseboards) are also available.

Reduces tremors from earthquakes by fully utilizing the characteristics of the linear motion guide

The design prevents loaded item separation and provides support using the rolling guide utility slide UGR, which operates via a ball recirculation mechanism. This product also handles drawing force and twisting, protecting the loaded items from earthquakes with stable, smooth motion. It possesses a damping function through the viscous dampers and a restoring function through the tension springs.

Demonstrated seismic isolation performance

This product possesses the seismic isolation capability to handle a major magnitude 7 earthquake, with verified matching response analysis and vibration test results.
