When assembling a ball spline, if the nut (outer cylinder) is removed from the spline shaft, will the balls fall out?
The rows of balls are held in a retainer incorporated into the spline nut so that they will not fall out even if the nut is removed from the spline shaft. However, please be careful when inserting or removing the shaft, as it may get caught on the balls and cause them to fall out. Also, since the LT4 and LT5 do not use a retainer, please do not remove the shaft from the nut with these models.
