Two Bonus Features Now Available to Add Peace of Mind to the "OMNIedge" IoT Service for Manufacturing: No-Wait Manufacturing Ticket and IoT Risk Coverage *For the time being, these services are available only in Japan.

Our IoT risk coverage service will be discontinued as of August 31, 2024.
We apologize for the inconvenience.

OMNIedge IoT Service for Manufacturing

As of September 1, 2021, THK will begin offering new bonus features for its “OMNIedge” IoT service for the manufacturing industry as a means to accelerate the introduction of condition-based maintenance (CBM) for machine components used in factories. These features are the no-wait manufacturing ticket and IoT risk coverage.

In order to compensate for the labor shortage caused by an aging society, machine and robotic automation has become a pressing concern for Japanese manufacturing. At the same time, the industry still relies on the intuition of experienced workers when it comes to maintenance inspections for production equipment. As a way to overcome this challenge, THK developed OMNIedge, a simple and secure IoT service with no initial costs. This service, which officially launched in 2020, determines the status of components and predicts failures before they happen.

OMNIedge helps reduce the risk of sudden equipment failure because it allows you to always have a quantitative measure of component status and perform maintenance at the appropriate time, regardless of your workforce situation. However, it has become clear that simply identifying the warning signs of component failure is not enough to solve the problems that arise when factories implement CBM. There are concerns about the ability to obtain the necessary part to immediately fix a broken machine and return it to an operable state, as well as worries about the financial burden of repairs if a machine were to fail because the sensor did not detect an issue. To alleviate these customer concerns, THK is now offering the no-wait manufacturing ticket and, in collaboration with Tokio Marine & Nichido, IoT risk coverage as new OMNIedge services. These bonus features are automatically included when signing up for OMNIedge, with no special application required.

In addition to making OMNIedge simple, secure, and without any initial costs, THK is enhancing its service by offering peace of mind in order to accelerate the adoption of CBM for machine components. THK will keep developing optimal solutions for its users and contribute to continuous productivity improvements in factories.

No-wait manufacturing ticket

This bonus feature allows OMNIedge customers to arrange the priority, “no-wait” manufacture of a replacement part at a THK factory when the sensor on their machine’s LM Guide, ball screw, or other component detects unusual or poor conditions and the part needs to be replaced. If OMNIedge is installed on the equipment, the no-wait manufacturing ticket eliminates worries about shipping dates and ensures that a replacement part can be arranged.

* This does not shorten the manufacturing lead time.

IoT risk coverage

Only in the event that OMNIedge’s predictive failure detection does not function properly and the component (LM Guide, ball screw, or actuator) to which the sensor is installed becomes damaged, insurance provided through Tokio Marine & Nichido will cover the cost of the component where the problem originated and the labor costs for replacing the part (up to a maximum of ¥1 million). This bonus feature is automatically included when signing up for OMNIedge, so no special application is required.

Overview

「Only in the event that OMNIedge’s predictive failure detection does not function properly and the component to which the sensor is installed becomes damaged, insurance provided through Tokio Marine & Nichido will cover the cost of that same component where the problem originated and the labor costs for replacing the part (up to a maximum of ¥1 million per accident).
